There was a nice 2D game under Windows 3x, where you could play similar character as in Diablo. It was an "icon" based game, you traveled into underground dungeon, oponents were also icons, but they were moving. On the sunlight you had shops, blacksmith, "identifier" (as you also find and get magic items unidentified). You could give better equipment to the character, etc. So it was completly like Diablo and came out before Diablo several years. First I thought it has same authors. Unfortunately I had only a shareware version, and it is also lost. I found that game on your links which sent me to Wiki and it redirected me a site:

It has that time nice graphics (you can create your character icon!!) and tactics (as some opponent were interesting, they were sometimes only taking your money and get lost immediatelly, if you was not strong enogh or you had no spells.
). I can't judge the sound, as that time I had no sound card. It seems, now you can get the game for free as author released it for free.
Anyhow DiabloI is/was a very nice game. I still like and once a year playing it. Diablo II was not so nice graphics and storry
...weak, but for Diablo-fans could be interesting.
I hope Diablo III will be as good as Diablo I.
