Also, I disagree with Starcraft. It may be popular but the title is "breakthrough PC games" and Starcraft was an updated Warcraft II with few real innovations.

System Shock was also in a fully 3D enviorment (with sprites for enemies, weapons and items tough) and it was released way back in 1994.
Starcraft was basically an updated Warcraft II and a Warhammer 40000 rip-off: Zergs = Tryrannids, Space Marines look very similar, Protoss look like the Eldar and also use "webway gates", etc. ; and people think it's original....
Dune 2, C&C or Total Annihilation would have deserved that place a lot more then Starcraft.
