For what my memory's worth: Future Tech, in all Civ games, are there as bonus points. Since the tech tree, in theory, could be infinite, there is a cap, a point where you run out of new "cool stuff to discover". Can't have infinity running riot in a limited space such as on a hdd or cd now, can we
What's more irritating is the fact that after you have made every city improvement and wonder, and you have built all the units you want, you need to continuously create units. It was fixed in Civ 2 where you'll get money instead of costly units.
Other than that: Civ has it's limitations but it's still one awesome game!
