LOL I thought the same thing when I first saw it. Maybe we could do a mod for Tyrian using these sprites? 
EDIT 1:After doing a little research Daniel Cook also designed the graphics for Tyrian! (Source: Mobygames)
EDIT 2: I got the tile set and the 2 games have some identical graphics!
