How'd you get all of the skills as a fighter? I only remember being able to do it as a thief. That was one of the benefits for me using the thief too. Plus money is easier to come by, although I don't really spend it on much. The main reason I used the thief was because I felt like I was seeing more of the game by being able to break into locked houses and rob them. Plus I liked the thieving aspects. Fighter was too boring, and magic user didn't distinguish itself enough from my thief with magic abilities. In the later games, they all get their own unique benefits though.
As for making money, from what I remember, the I'd just fight monsters and sell their parts, finish quests, and I'd end every day by sweeping the stable in the castle. I never really bought much, so money was never a problem for me. I'm sure being a thief helped too. I probably bought spells and that was it.
As for QFG5, the references to previous games kind of fit since it was supposed to be the last game of the series, so it was tying all of those games together. Plus I liked the Greek theme. The voxel graphics seemed good from what I remember too, compared to the ugly primitive 3D graphics other games used. I'm not sure how well they'd hold up today though.
Compared to other Sierra games of that time, like King's Quest 8 and Gabriel Knight 3, Quest for Glory 5 was pretty good.
