I rated the game a 4 because I thought the first game in the series was a better one, and that one should be a 5. In comparison, this game, which I still think is really great, is a 4. Just IMHO. Although most of the community seem to agree. This isn't Brett Sperry, is it?

Just my two cents, but I didn't like the first title very much--except graphically. I remember the random solution puzzles; and when I neutrally quizzed one of the development team members about it (while the Project Leader was on the phone), he blurted out angrily, "It's random because that's the way life is!" The PL thanked him, told him to leave, and conducted a much friendlier conversation after that. In fact, the PL called me later after the review was published to say that he agreed completely with my conclusions--and that the reason some of the attempts at humor were so blunt was that he was brought in late. Heh! But he promised better in the second title, and I think (and I know others disagree) he was right. The other titles in the series had graphics that were still better (I will never forget the giant foot being chased around the tree), and very fine dialog.
In any case, kudos for having those titles here. They deserve to be remembered. IMO, Kyrandia was the only series that provided a true challenge to the hegemony of Lucasarts and Sierra in adventure games.
