Well although it is nice, but I can't see anything in his face. Looks like a normal face to me. I don't how all these art people can talk about paintings and photos for so long. I bet you they just make it up as they go along and everybody else just agrees because they too busy staring at it to care what they saying.
EDIT If anything I see sadness. Maybe due to the fact that he is an outcast, as you said no one likes a demon. I think he just wants to fit in be one of the crowd. But they have pushed him away and he feels lonely and sad.
