It is actually possible to get 'veteran' status. I got it after the second to last mission. The actual skills don't seem to improve though. The manual doesn't say what influences the skill rating. It might be just score dependent.

A couple more tips not in the manual:

- You can add/remove ammo on the outfitting screen by pressing + and -. Useful for explosives which you only need 2 of, but you get 3. It says (2) but you actually have 3, so reducing it to (1) gives you 2 explosives.

- You can use the prisoner handling kit yourself when you're closer than 10 m, instead of doing a 'search'.

- It's a good idea to make sure the boat doesn't end up near the target area when doing a snatch mission.
