To be more specific, the archive contains a demo version of Warcraft II with the (useless) files generated by Junk File Generator as filler to increase the size.
The behavior you describe is entirely abnormal - Windows Explorer should not freeze that simply on opening a directory, much less cause corruption of your system files to the point where a reformat is the only option.
