Alexei Pajitnov would agree with you.
He's the creator, though he never saw a ruble (or dollar, or euro) for it. If you like his games, though, you might try his puzzle collection for Microsoft, Pandora's Box. It's not a timed puzzle, but a series of roughly 8 or 9 different puzzle types, with increasing difficulty levels, and a nominal plot. Very nicely done, and with good graphics. Most definitely not abandonware, but I've seen it going cheaply secondhand on Amazon and eBay.
