Just my two cents, but I didn't like the first title very much--except graphically.* I remember the random solution puzzles; and when I neutrally quizzed one of the development team members about it (while the Project Leader was on the phone), he blurted out angrily, "It's random because that's the way life is!"* The PL thanked him, told him to leave, and conducted a much friendlier conversation after that.* In fact, the PL called me later after the review was published to say that he agreed completely with my conclusions--and that the reason some of the attempts at humor were so blunt was that he was brought in late.* Heh!* But he promised better in the second title, and I think (and I know others disagree) he was right.* The other titles in the series had graphics that were still better (I will never forget the giant foot being chased around the tree), and very fine dialog.

In any case, kudos for having those titles here.* They deserve to be remembered.* IMO, Kyrandia was the only series that provided a true challenge to the hegemony of Lucasarts and Sierra in adventure games.
Ahh, well, Kyrandia - the first game in the series - was the first computer game I ever played and has remained my favourite game of all time. It had everything: mesmerising plot which unravelled brilliantly in the course of the game, captivating storyline set on a fantastic island, awesome and innovative music, fascinating characters, (adored Brandon) and the gameplay was really fun and I loved the puzzles as within the reality of the game they all seemed logical, and of course the graphics are legendary. I use to dream about playing the game, only in my dreams it was called Rapture. I'd love to live on Kyrandia. But the characters in the two later games seemed rough, not heroic. Anti-heroes are ok, but they've got to have some compensating qualities, which Malcolm didn't seem to have, and the female mystic...who's name I can't remember, was ok, but not nearly as noble and interesting to me as Brandon.

Your story is a fascinating one. Thanks for sharing that. But I'll always think the first Kyrandia had the most magic and charm, probably because that's where my head and heart are at. It's a personal thing.
