Hands down, the PS2. Then get yourself a copy of 'Timesplitters 2', the Grand Theft games, Hitman 2 (not 3) and Ghost Recon (not Recon 2). Then retire. Because you'll need the time.
As an aside, while the PS2 does support on-line game play, there's quite a number of games that are great to play against your mates in the same room. Friend of mine really miproved my gaming life with the invention of a device he calls 'Cardboard', used here with permission. Basically, selloptape a piece of thick paper down the centre of your telly, then sit at either side of it, and, 'presto', the sensation of link-up play on a single telly.
He's since developed 'Cardboard2', which straps to the telly and gives the same effect for those games that split vertically across the telly.
Um... This'd work equally well with an X-Box, granted, but the game support for the PS2 is just leagues better.
