Taken by itself, its an alright game. I liked the artist who did the character designs. His artwork that the 3d models are based off, are pretty awesome. I even emailed the artist and he wrote back with some nice replies. I even bought the strategy book so I could get the artist pencil sketches.
As a game, Blood2 didn't do so well because compared to the original blood 1 games and expansions, it lost a lot of the b-movie/campy atmosphere that made the Blood 1 games enjoyable. There's not as much gore and the grisly humor is sort of lost or muddled. So for fans of Blood 1, Blood 2 was kind of a letdown, plus it was needed a lot of CPU horsepower at the time to play, and also since it was a fully 3d game (unlike the pseudo 3d of the Duke3d/Build engine used for Blood 1), it was a bit lackluster in comparison to the big 3d hits at the time. Namely Quake II and Half-life.
However, since horror themed FPS games are rare and few, and I'm a big fan of horro games, I enjoyed it. I even made some 3d models and tried making some levels with the lithtech engine. But yeah, definitely Blood 1 was better.
If you want a good horror FPS, if you haven't played it already, try Clive Barker's Undying. Lots of spooky atmosphere, interesting story and done with the Unreal 1 engine.
