![]() I pretty much agree with this. Not sure about Wizardry though, or why is it in such high spot on the list.

![]() Heavy on the FPS games, it mentions HL, Quake and Doom...
Also it puts Starcraft on the list while ignoring Dune II, C&C and Red Alert. It ranks things heavily biased towards multiplayer. It misses out certain types of games (flight sims for example, also games like Dungeon Keeper, Magic Carpet...) To be honest, you could probably make another list with ten completely different games to make the same points. Otherwise, was a good video. |

![]() The trailer make quite a few "mistakes":
Quake was actually preceded by the Xngine when it came to a fully 3D world. Future Shock was the first 3D game (albeit with sprites for small objects - id Software's Quake engine couldn't handle those either so they just left them out). Also, while Quake's engine WAS licensed out, there were only a handful of games that were wiling to pay for it and only Half Life is remembered these days so it was hardly a big thing. Also, I disagree with Starcraft. It may be popular but the title is "breakthrough PC games" and Starcraft was an updated Warcraft II with few real innovations. Most were, in typical Blizzard style, ripped off from other games such as Dark Reign. Just because it's a popular online game, especially in Korea, doesn't mean it was a breakthrough game. Command & Conquer or Dune 2 deserve this spot far more. I'm glad they added Ultime Online though: if they hadn't, they'd have to be BIG fools. Why they made it "Kingdom Reborn" I don't get. Why they even USED the new client I don't get. I also think it's ridiculous the way they basically say "other games learned to be carebear games instead of making the player sweat. Wizardry does deserve to be that high but Akalabeth (Ultima 0) was released around the same time and even a little earlier so I wonder who came up with the idea? And yes, Doom on number one is no surprise. Wolfenstein 3D was a maze game while Doom was a real world. Personally, I think they left out some important games - Dune 2 deserved to be mentioned more than Starcraft for example. |

![]() I watched this video, and i have to agree with most of what's already been said in the thread, pretty bias toward multiplayer games, and they did leave out game genres and their respective groundbreaking games. And I too disagree with StarCraft and would have taken Dune II instead. It was the first, after all.
The only grime I have with the 3D engine ground breaking thing is that I still think the Ultima Underworld engine was superior to the Doom engine

Starcraft was basically an updated Warcraft II and a Warhammer 40000 rip-off: Zergs = Tryrannids, Space Marines look very similar, Protoss look like the Eldar and also use "webway gates", etc. ; and people think it's original.... Dune 2, C&C or Total Annihilation would have deserved that place a lot more then Starcraft.

![]() I agree with the Starcraft being an odd-duck on the list, but FPS games deserve their spots. Quake popularized the use of graphic cards (shame really, considering how back then it was optional, but now its mandatory), Half-Life popularized scripted events (Duke Nukem 3D and build games had scripted events though) and probably modding too (Counter-Strike anyone?) and Doom popularized online gaming, shareware business and technically whole PC gaming at the time.
As for flight sims...naw. Im not so sure. Those games were always kind of for hardcore sim-players, and I cant really name any flight sim that was so revolutionizing that non-flight-sim-player could remember it. EDIT: Now that I think of it, Doom really started of the modding stuff too, with all the wads and stuff. And mainly because of Counter-Strike, Half-Life popularized the online gaming even more. ![]() Yeah, Doom was the first game with a truly big mod community. I spent hours and hours altering stuff - adding new weapons for example.
