![]() Hey people, I've been getting a lot of games from this nice website lately (I would donate, if I could), and some games require the EMS-386 driver. I suppose it configurates something in memory, but here's the problem...
I open up my prompt, type: EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS There is indeed the file named Config.sys, but when it opens, it's just a blank file. So, I need help to find out how to add these lines to the real Config.sys, and, if it's needed, how to open MS-DOS having only MS-WXP installed. And by the way, here are my PC's specs: P3 755 Mhz, NVidia GeForce 2 220 (64MB), 512 RAM, Windows XP HE, MS-DOS 4.0 (I believe) and 40 GB HD, NTFS System. I hope this problem can be solved... |

![]() I'm afraid this problem can be solved only in two ways - either you use DosBox (very bad option for your rather slow PC) or you install Windows 98 either instead of Windows XP or on second HD / partition on HD and play the Dos games there. In case of Windows 98 the config.sys won't be empty anymore, but adding emm386.exe still wouldn't make sense as Windows 98 already loads it's own memory manager before config.sys is processed and emm386.exe adds nothing.

![]() There's also an option installing Win98 on same partition with XP but in other dir than Windows. But then you must share same Program Files dir. Ups, you can't, you have NTFS.

![]() The poster has ntfs filesystem
So win98 can't use that partition.

![]() You can always play around with the config.nt file in Windows System32 folder. It does contain a bit concerning EMM.
But your best bet is to try VDMSound or something similar or else see if it is possible to implement this into the config.nt file... but do remember that XP was not designed to deal with DOS |

A freeware version that can only read NTFS volumes can be downloaded here: NTFS for Windows 98. A shareware version that is Dos-oriented but works in Windows 98 too, that can read NTFS volumes but needs to be purchased for writing can be downloaded here: NTFS4DOS Pro. And besides, he can always re-format the drive and choose FAT32 again. |

Two, I only set NTFS because there was some odd problem down there which only led to choose NTFS. Oh my dear FAT32... |
