Have you considered running bittorrent? Bittorrent is useful for ruducing the bandwidth requirements. With this it would be possible to make large files available. For example cd images of the original comand and conquer so people can have all the movies and music.

What exactly IS Bittorent? I've heard a lot about it, and I know HOTU uses it, but I have really freaking fast cable connection (500 Mbps) so I've never really seen a purpose for it.

Bittorent is a p2p file-sharing program. And no we have not considdered using it. As was mentioned ealier I think it will take away from the VIP section and keeping seeds going is a pain.

I use it @ home for private things..
Works only very well for files larger then 500 MB....it just need some time to get running :not_ok:

What is the purpose of having the vip section anyway? Just to reward people who do good things for the site or is it to reduce the amount of bandwidth your website uses as well? Anyway all  to abandonia. I just though running a bitorrent tracker on the website might be an interesting suggestion.

I never find seeds when trying to dl something from the underdogs, so i don't think this is a good idea
