At least in 3rd edition, once you reach level 20 you're pretty much a God.

Depends on what you're playing, a spellcaster or a non-spellcaster character? Because a level 17 wizard can stop time and do whatever the hell he wants, a level 17 cleric can ressurect an entire army in 6 seconds, but a level 17 fighter celebrates if he could kill a single demon, a level 17 rogue is overjoyed if he could steal some treasure from the king's castle and so on.
