Have you tried the options of D-fend?

On Page 8 of this forum (last one on pg8), Psychotropic Dog details a very good step-by-step instruction of how to get this game to work after downloading it using only DosBox. I got it to install and as I went through the installation process it checked my sound configuration and I was able to hear all of the sounds (sterea/digital/music).

I was not able to get a shortcut like he said on my desktop. I also had some trouble with the config file... I was able to get into the game and play, but there was no sound. Any help?

Have u read this entire threads, there're already a bunch of help. And EMS is already active in dosbox default configuration.
If u get no sound be sure u have the installation program copy files to ur harddisk as it would record ur sound config there. In general with dosbox if u want really boosted sound u should type in prompt or put these in "autoexec" section of config
mixer master 220:220 /noshow
mixer sb 220:220 /noshow

When u guys get X-Wing to work, tell me how to recharge the lasers eh...

Anyway, it IS working,but I'm not very impressed with the game itself, but I do enjoy it...

Hey all,

I finally got the game downloaded, got it running on DOSBox, but I am having a little trouble with something.

My joystick does not fully function in the flight mode. When I calibrate it in-game it is fine, I can use it as a mouse in the starport, and it controls the ships movement in flight. However the buttons stop responding once I enter flight mode.

I am using a Saitek X36. I am not using the throttle portion. I also have a Saiteck gamers keyboard. When I start DOSBox it shows me this about the joystick

"Using joystick Saitek X35 Flight Controller USB with 6 axes and 26 buttons
Using joystick Saitek Gamers' Keyboard with 0 axes and 11 buttons"

Any ideas why the joystick buttons do not work in flight?

Hello. This is a question for the picard. I am a longtime fan of the xwing game, having played the old game with addons on the 5 floppy disks. I remember my own computer was not up to the challenge of playing this huge game and I could only play at my friends' house. Now I have purchased the CD Xwing collectors. I have DOSBOX but have not heard of Daemon. Please post specific instructions to install xwing on my computer. I am not a total idiot and it seems best to wait for a step by step list before doing anything wrong that I need to fix later. Thanks--I know you have listed this stuff repeatedly for many others and am much obliged for your help in this matter. thanks.

WTF is this ESA and why can't I download some games that were previously available.
It's like it was alright for the others to download it before and now it's not.
This is pointless, is it abandoned or not , just if somebody is selling it that doesn't
mean they are supporting it or that it is legal.
And you should remove the game cos it's got nothing to do with this site.
(then I could buy license for UFO or something like that and make a lawsuit against
this site for illegal distribution)

Mirko, ESA is a huge company founded just to annoy you. They knew you wanted to download some games and so they said they should do anything they could to stop you from doing so! :bleh:
Those games ARE copyrighted and the owners of the copyrights do not want to see them released for free, even though they are not being sold anymore. Yes, for you and me it sucks big time, but it is their right, and the law is on their side. The good thing is that (as the wonderful song goes) time is on my(our) side, and in a few decades you should be able to download them without any problems.
