Hi guys i see you all are finding some hard spots to get thorugh, same stuff for me. I think this game it's not well done at all or maybe it's just me who doesn't find it logic in its solutions. Anyways, i'm kinda stuck at level 16...i killed everybody, got the staute from the red demon, found the white key and the two rooms downstairs....but i can't get to the real entrance to level 17...!

How do you go down to this level, there are tre ladders down pointed in the map but they are not there and you can't see them even using the macig! I searched every wall for these stupid secret doors the author seems to like sooooo much but i couldn't find any other!

Can u please gimme an hint cuz i'm stuck at that level and really can't figure a way out to level 17!

Hi E.D.

Maybe I can help a little...

I wandered back up to level 16 to take a look. There are 9 rooms at
the bottom of my map. The ladder down is in the SE corner. There is a
pressure pad in the SE corner that opens the door to the door with the
ladder down.

I'm not sure how to get to this stage of the game...it's often difficult
to "undo" any magical events in this game.

There are three rooms at the bottom of the map that show "down
ladders". I can't access them, so I don't know where they go to.
The map of level 15 doesn't offer any help as there are no
"down ladders" shown on level 15 above these ladders....

Hope this helps...

Happy Days

Nemesis; Thanks for the reply...and statue information...

I's currently wandering aimlessly around level 23, trying to get
to the exit. I've just about worn out the "s" key looking for secret
doors.

I found two pressure pans in the SW room...had to kill a mess of
bad people before I found the pressure pads. Tried weighting/not
weighting them to locate "secret door opening". Got zip. Found
the room with the teleporter and the next area to explore. So far
it was a dead loss...

If you hear a plea for help it's me...

being a born "hack "n slasher" for many years, I overlooked the obvious
(like so many times before)..you must both look and don't always count
on the obvious in this game. there is a thingy (looks like a "fire plug thingy"
with a purple light on top) in the middle of level 23 that is deceptive. (sneaky
little software writers)

Use the "reveal" spell and locate and jump over the hidden teleporter
directly in front of the "fire plug thingy". "Use" the "fire plug thingy" to get to
level 24.

Still looking for the 5th statue...

I find it!!!

The 5th statue!

Lev 18 the undead, in the NW room with 4 graves, you cast see reality and you find a teleport.

Now, I go for the destruction of the statues

Thanks Aveiron;

That was VERY helpful imformation concerning the location of the 5th
statue...I found it with your help. Thanks again. (level of the dead
with coffins in two rooms...seems obvious now)

I'm currently banging on the door on level 25 with no luck. Appearently,
you have to "crush, smash or break" the statues on the pentagram
(according to the guidance from some kind person in this forum).

Again, according to the forum imformation it's on the hell level. That
will be my next stop.

Happy Days,

The pentagram is in the 24 lev. In SE room with a lot of teleport, one of that teleport in the laboratory with a little pentagram. In accord to a previus msg we must destroy the statues before going in the 25 lev. But is'nt so easy do it. I try and try and try... :ranting:
but nothing

I managed to destroy the statues at last. The reverse order means that you have to start with the statue that is farthest to the right in your inventory and work your way to the right, at least that worked for me.
To find the Demoncrusher you have to use the See Reality spell, you'll probably have to go deeper in the dundgeon to find the runes required
ok for the reverse order, but how to use the demon crusher? I try to use it, but "no use for this" is the response.
:eeeeeh:

Aveiron: Thanks so much for the help with the 5th statue.

Zapper: Sorry if I confused you. As I mentioned before I´m on the 25th level. Used that fireplug thing.

I´m not sure though but I think I remember having sb said that you have to place a statue on each end of the pentagram, which isn´t possible for the small pentagram. I think there is another one. Did anybody get access to that room where the man tortured is still alive? So I didn´t even try. There is something odd about this room though. Nothing special in it. I´ll go cast lot of see reality and tell you if I found out sth new.

Made it! Didn´t finish the game yet (because that son of a bitch caught me unaware and unrested) but I managed to destroy the statues.

Aveiron: You were right about the pentagram. You first drop the statue farthest to the right in your inventory on the pentagram. Make sure it lies ON the pentagram. Then you select use and then demoncrusher. Watch a short movie and repeat the process.

You´ll have company when entering lvl 25!

I would like to thank the folks who created and have maintained this web
site. It is well presented and maintained with an ecellent assortment of
games.

After reviewing this Web site, I noticed that "Ancient Evil" had a lot of
forum activity. This was either due to a level of frustration or real interest
in finishing the game.

I'm not real sure what makes a game interesting. If "Ancient Evil" touts
itself as a "role playing" game, I suppose that would set the game apart
from other games. i.e, strategy, action etc. A Strategy game would need
some form of strategy to finish the game etc. A Role playing game would
seemingly rely on the Role being played and how the Role is played to
spark an interest in the game and to finish the game.

As a Role playing game, "Ancient Evil" rather falls short of the mark. As
the fourm noted, the character selection (Warrior, Sorcerer etc.) seems
to play little part in "ancient Evil". In many games, the Warrior
doesn't cast magic and the sorcerer doesn't carry weapons, but
rather relies on magic) "Ancient Evil" is constructed more like an an
Action Game in that anyone can do anything. This is not necessarily
bad, only unexpected.

The purpose for playing "Ancient Evil" is not real clear. The object for
the game is, additionally, not clear. But then again hack and slash
in lieu of an objective has sold many games.

Normally, there is a defined or perceived reason for puzzles, accumulation
of weapons, money or stores. These are only "speed bumps" in this game.
You end up filling your inventory with useless items. Ultimately, this
only adds to frustration. Maybe you can carry your character into
"Ancient Evil 2" where this "accumulation mentality" will be rewarded.

While there is a lot of variety in the "look" of each level, this doesn't
translate into some advantage for the many different characters that this
game allows one to create. At least the looks of the levels added some
variety.

The game seemed to run very smoothly and easy to play without
a lot of confusing ways to fight the many bad people in this game.

The game only crashed once. I tried to cast an area spell (lightining)
and the game locked up. I had to fight 5 bad guys individually and
take some hits to defeat that bunch of ruffians. This was probably
due to my computer, a 400MHZ machine that I keep to play the older
games. It has two hard drives, one with W98SE and the other with
DOS 6.2. (Dos games run better in Dos sometimes.)

Ancient Evil was a fun game...made a lot easier with the forum provided
by the Web site.

Happy Days,

Zapper
