I'll give you a hint: it's a historical person.

I'll try a 17th century riddle, then (I'm not entirely sure about the spelling, though)

"A mate to a ****, and a corn tall as wheat
Is his Christian name, who is musick's compleat.
The second begins with the grace of a cat
And ends with the house of a hermit, mark that.
His skill and perfection each auditor wins,
But the poet deserves a good kick on the shins" (I think we may agree with that )

a mate to a **** is a hen.
corn as tall as wheat can only be a stalk.
Hence: henstalk
Music's compleat refers to a person who is proficient in what he does, therefore this "Henstalk" person is a proficient musician.

The grace of a cat could be slink(?)
the house of a hermit could be a ghetto, or a shack. Slinkshack? <chuckle>

An auditor is a listener. Therefore each listener recieves the gift of the person's skill. It is obvious from all this that this guy is a 17th composer. Unfortunetly there are no 17th century composers named Henstalk Slinkshack.

What was the point of that post? Ruining the challenge for everyone else somewhat don't you think?

Also, the corn thing can't "only be a stalk" because Henstalk isn't a name! (Edit: Find me someone called Henstalk and I'll go buy a hat, then eat it. No deed polls allowed).

Well if its a composer you want I'll go with Mozart.

Granted I know nothing about Mozart except:
that he wrote his first symphony when 3 or 5, anyway before he was 10.
He was stone deaf when he died.
And I, of course, like some of his music. Just don't ask me to name them. Although, I can tell if the piece like is done by him or someone else.

Beef, don't you think you were a bit harsh? I was just stating some observations of mine. You didn't seriously belive I thought the answer was Henstalk Slinkshack, did you? Come on, I was joking! Don't get uptight! LOL

I believe that was his point, Indignus. If you know the answer (and it really shouldn't be all that hard to find), feel free to post it, but if you don't, please don't interrupt with a pointless spam post as a joke. It just ruins the thread.

So... 17th century composers, anyone? Come on, there aren't all that many of them, and this one is fairly well-known.

Heres a long one...Good luck contestants

"I am the center of gravity, hold a capital situation in Vienna, and as I am foremost in every victory, am allowed by all to be invaluable. Though I am invisible, I am clearly seen in the midst of a river. I could name three who are in love with me and have three associates in vice. It is vain that you seek me for I have long been in heaven yet even now lie embalmed in the grave. What am I?"
