Hey! Just wanted to add my memories. I also played this game as a child -- it was one of the first computer games I learned to play when I was 8. What has amazed me is that even though now I'm 25 and haven't played the game in years, I remembered the basic set-up and where the sword was. My sister also remembered things about the game, even though she would have been 5 when we first got. We must have played it for hours on end to still remember it.

And yes, the monsters were way better in my head than they could have been as real graphics!

Thanks for sharing this!

Now-a-days games r full of lightning v-sink n all that, but the old games can still makes us pass hours n hours without all that new stuff.
the exency of the older one's is a real game, not how good it looks, how many official products they have, I have almost all the new games there r, but still I play Transporters Tyvoon deluxe, One must fall 2097, colonization n all that...

a word for the todays software house's:

make good games, not preaty images and good beats...

stay well

I still have this game on my Amstrad (below my desk, getting in the way of my feet a bit). I never did work out how to fight effectively, though - mostly it was a case of wandering in to the garden, getting the message "The SNAKE bit you!" a few times and dying.

I was terrified of the flooding dungeon, as well.

Oh wow, oh wow, I'm not the only person in the world who remembers this game.

At the time, this was 10 times cooler than all the final fantasies combined.

I actually beat it, when I played it on the old Tandy as a preteen, but it took a hell of a long time to figure out how. I remember thinking how much potential the game had, if only Kevin Bales would have extended it, let you walk into the village outside the castle, etc.

I even tried to get my mom to give me $10 so I could register the shareware.

Thought that I had Castle game. GF had it. Have all the printouts of the rooms, items that can be had, a floorplan of the castle, but can't remember the commands to get stuff. Know Look Wall, floor, etc, but thats about it. Still have the original floppy. Works just fine on XP. Well, might be able to scan and upload whatever is needed - such as all the items that can be had and where they are. Just thought that if anyone was interested. Amazing that it was almost 20 years age! Bob Smylie

This is the first computer game I ever remember playing; I can still remember the exhileration of finally beating it.

But now when I try to play I can't beat even the easy monsters (like the snake)! Is this because the game ran at the PC's processor speed and thus is now running too quickly? Is there some way I can get it to run at a slower speed? I've had the same problem with a few other really old games.
