We would here that kind of stuff less because our royalty is probably our top export to the US. They know that people in Britain have had enough of this crap but they don't know when to stop elsewhere.

That explains it.

About Di, she was different because she was someone who didn't want to be in royalty and yet still was. Because of this a lot of people respected her a lot more than other royalty.

Here's some advice Triton, dont care, ignore all that sh*t and it will make your life better. Plus, if you hate the news about celebs, dont buy newspapers or disable your tv. It's going all the time, T, its going ALL the time...

When I went to Quebec last year, there was a reality TV show called Star Academie about a group of teenagers who were trying to make it big in the Canadian music scene. It didn't seem like they were anything like contestants in other reality shows; they were normal kids being filmed regularly while they attended art lectures and practiced singing and playing instruments. They often sang together or for their instructors. Nevertheless, the winner would undoubtedly have his or her life set and become some stupid celebrity. I haven't been to Quebec since, so I don't know how they turned out.
Nah, here in belgium at one point one of them was crying because she believed she would fail because her "assets" weren't large enough

General thoughts about celebrity worship:

- People like to gossip.
- The lesser the inteligence, the bigger the need to gossip.
- The smaller the understanding of the world, the biggere the importance of gossip.

So as long as there are ignorant people who know of nothing outside their small neighbourhoods and there will be gossip. Nowdays the vast majority of those people has at least a TV, so they don't need to gossip so much about their neighbours any more, but they can gossip about celebritys or about some sopa operas (and that's exactly what they do). This gives them a lot to gossip about without actually talking about people they personally know.
On one hand they feel more intelegent (they are gossiping about people the whole world knows) and on the other hand no-one gets hurt (if you gossip your neighbour he might get angy with you).
And to top it off - even the media helps them!

So we have a closed cycle of yellow press (that started this sort of media), TV shows (mostly talk shows or soap operas - there they can talk about the adoultry, and other brainless stuff they like to talk about not realising these aren't real people) and the local gossip.

There's no way of stoping it - unless you know how to raise the average IQ on the planet by 20 points.

Hmmm but aren't most of the magazines in the UK basically tabloids, even the normal newspapers?

Yes, most UK-newspapers have a tabloidish feel to them, even the ones that claim they aren't tabloids.

Celebrity's are the worst of all people they get of things that most people would not, take Michael Jackson he got off when there was loads of evidence against him, he should have been sentenced to death I think. :ranting:

1) Celebritys are people just like everybody else - getting away with doing crime is not their fault, but the fault of the legal system. All should be equal before the law - but if the system isn't working then it's not the fault of the accused.

2) The main reason rich people (not only celebritys) can get away with almost anything is that they can afford good lawyers. Their teams of lawyers can exploit every flaw in the legal system and get them off the hook. And it's obvious that if you hire a dozen people to work for you 24/7 and don't need to worry about any other clients - they will find something. The oposite side usually doesn't have a team of more then 2/3 average lawyers - again not the celebritys' fault.

3) How can you even compare? How many trials that did not include celebritys have you really follow, so that you'd know the difference? If some John Doe molested children somewhere and the trial got to the court - there is a big chance you never would even hear about it (unless it happened in your neighbourhood), but if a big celebrity is even accused of something (Even if it's completely fabricated) you will be bombarded with the news!

4) Even if Jackson did all he was acused of - what's the acctual penalty for child molesting? Is it the death sentence? And in his case - he deffinetly is a mental freak (and he could plead insanity at any time - and I guess all would believe him).
