![]() LOL, well I went to the thrift store and they cought me!!!! o well. Now I am banned from there permently... Well its not too much of a loss, I don't go there that much anyway. Anyway I tried to sneak off with 2 ram chips that I found in an old Intel 486. They cought me and I had to give back one (they didn't know I took 2). Now I am just hoping that it was all worth the trouble. BTW are EISA cards backwards compatable with ISA cards?
hmm poped the ram in, and screen is still blank =\. I am hoping the mobo isn't dead... |

![]() awww crap... bad news, my dad told me that the reason he upgraded that mobo was because the bios was dead. Ok SO, anyway I can replace that bios chip? Its an AMI BIOS model C-1216.
THERE IS STILL HOPE!!!! I was reading about AMI BIOSs and they have a Reovery feature. All I need to find is a rom that is simmiler to my bios =\ |

![]() A lot might depend if it's the chip dead or BIOS-connecting part of the mobo. If it's just the chip, you could possibly find another to substitute the old one with.
Also, for BIOS images, I think you should check www.driverguide.com |

![]() EDO ram didn't come out for the comp til the Pentium one , A 386 or 486 uses SIMM ram and I believe that the max you can put on it is 32 Megs in total , and also another thing to consider is that the ram will be in parity , as it was with 286 up until the introduction of PII , then briefly with the P4 (I don't know WHAT they were thinking ) , and you might want to see if there will be support for a CD-rom , etc . usually a 386 will have some ram built on board (4-8 megs depending on the mother board) along with the video card (256 color Max resolution however since most of the most common video chips was like Oak Technology , etc ) . So good luck with the builder , and you might want to invest in a ISA Riser board since 386's I am not sure if they come with PCI slots , so the ISA riser board will incorporate pci slots into the comp.
