The news here just reported that some organisation other then Al Queda claimed the bombings in name of Al Queda.
Anybody else heard about this?

As it stands the BBC are reporting that nobody has directly claimed responsibility for the attacks, however they spoke of one Al Queda group claiming resposibility via their website earlier in the day.

The BBC has located an Islamist website that has published a 200-word statement issued by an organisation saying it carried out the London bombings.
The organisation calls itself the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda [literally the base] of Jihad Organisation in Europe.

The group is previously unknown.

The website has previously carried statements purporting to be from al-Qaeda. It is not possible to verify such claims published on the web.

This is the full text of the statement.

In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.

Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.

We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.

We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.

God says: "You who believe: If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly."

clearly these terrorists dont understand the british mindset. there was a lot of sympathy for iraq and afghanistan in this country. this is going to give people a reosen for hatred rather than a reosen to opose it.
this might sound dumb but amongst the many people i feel sorry for in the midst of this tragedy are the bengali guys who run the resteraunt i live next door to. they are muslim and after 9/11 and madrid they got a lot of flak from *customers*. they are nice guys but evry time al quida does something they take flak for it.
still been unable to contact my mate.

I first read about the "Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda" (actual name) from AP I think. It sounds like a bad joke. Who names their group Secret anything? Not only cowards but also morons and complete lack of taste. It is like calling the Royal Navy, Powerful Royal Navy or Royal Navy Xtreeeeeem. *dirty word* idiots.

I hope your friend will turn out to be okay, Omg.

Regarding the group that claimed responsibility for the attacks: any nutcase in Britain or Europe could claim responsibility and say they are Islamic terrorists.

Anyone remember the Nick Berg video tape? They claimed to be Islamic terrorists too.

And indeed, what terrorist group would call themselves "secret" to begin with? Just a simple "Al Qaeda in Europe" would have sufficed I'd say. Or even "British Al Qaeda."

The only thoughts I have are simple:

- The current number of fatalities is 37 - hopefully this number will not increase!

- My condolences to the families that suffered because of this tragic event.

- Whatever the policy of a government is (and no matter how much people have supported the government in its decisions), terrorist attacks are not acceptable. Terrorists may feel like that's their only way to fight for a world they would find just, but this is just plain out wrong.

@OMG: I hope you'll be able to reach your friend and will find out that there's absolutely nothing wrong with him.
