![]() So many poorly labelled albums/movies, restricted to underaged people, just because they have reality inside. Life's a bed of roses, keep believing in that kids How believing in having parental advisory labels make someone against reality or supposed reality? Poor sarcasm aside (roses), why shouldn't there be any such labels? They are obviously not affecting your views on what is good music for example, unless of course you are under age and are pissed off that you are not "allowed" to listen to watch something. And since everyone who wants to warn someone that something might contain words/etc that could be not the most productive for kids is obviously a fascist trying to hide the truth from the kids, you are propably right! Or maybe not. I couldn't care less about *meep* the parental advisory screen on your phone. That is your opinion. |

![]() Does anyone give a damn? If a person wants to listen to ceritain music, one will find a way. Underaged or not. I doubt there are many in here that can't download (illegal as it may be), or burn cd's. And hey, if you can't, some of your friends must be able to! Too bad I'm not 18 and can't buy it. Well.. I'll get it for free!!
I'm not reccomending people to download instead of buying, I'm just facing reality. One question (that I won't see answers to before I leave town anyways...): Do stores in other countries really give a damn about it? If a 10yo walks to the register with a cd marked Parental Advisory, does the clerck say "Nopes, sorry man, you're too young! Now go home to mommy!!"? I've never heard of it happening here, except with video games that get lots of media coverage, like GTA. Some angry feminists were bithcing in the news about it, so the stores tightened the security concerning it. Some of the staff in those stores are even younger than 18 themselves, heck, younger than 16, so it's not like it's hard to buy it anyways. Now my point of view. I think this is a good thing, but it's impossible to follow stricktly. It's a good sign of "status", if i could say so. So it won't surprice you :bleh: Anyways... I'm late. Bye! |

Example: "Schindler's List". My 9th grade history teacher actually took the movie to classes. That was the most touching movie I ever saw, and it was still rated R. For what? One scene of sex without any nudity, obvious scenes of violence (that actually happened in history) and giving an insight to a war. I suppose we shouldn't teach kids nowadays the cruelty of the human race, they should grow without such movies so they can grow old without knowing why those concepts are bad. Heck I was 14 at the time and that was a great lesson in life, rated or not. I for once loved the fact my teacher screwed over that. |

![]() As I said I am in favour of any such labels. I do agree that there must be further discussion as to what triggers such things. Though I agree the teenager(s) will have (usualy) no problem either buying or getting illegaly the songs/movies, I still don't think it should be a proposed solution about the restriction. But, it does look like their parents are either ignorant or just lazy to do some freaking parenting. I remember when I was a kid if I ever even thought about doing something illegal like stealing (because it is stealing) something, I would get some serious eh talk and not do it again. NEver had to, but I knew it was always there. Plus I was constantly told what is "right" and "wrong". Do today's parents even try on this?
About Puffin's question, here in the UK I think they are enforcing the rules more or less to the letter. Though I can't be certain since I am far from a teenager, they do for other things like magazines, smokes, alchohol, so my educated guess says they do for that too. Back in Greece (where I am from), they were more relaxed, for example a kid can go and buy all of the above without any problems since he/she is trusted that is buying them for her/his parents etc. About music, I don't even remember if the cds there have any such labels on them. Of course there aren't (or weren't anyway, I don't know now) any heavy cursing and when there is, it is not seen as a reason to put a label on a cd for that. Come to think of it, the words that are used like hmm they will propably be beeped here, muck, *meep*, lady, bitch are the most you are going to get, when rarely you do, any since are part of everyday life, what is the point of placing restrictions on cds/movies about them? But also nobody gives a damn about the words, where for example in the UK if you are having a conversation with a stranger or something and you happen (not to them) to use the above words you are going to have "looks" and perhaps more. I would be interested to know what is the situation with labels in other countries too. |

![]() @ shifter:
Oh, I DO accept religious beliefs. I just don't agree with them. If someone claims to be Napoleon and can't be reasoned with, I accept that, yet I'd advice him to see a doctor. Same for people who talk to burning thorntrees or tell about goat with multiple heads and hundreds of eyes that make blood rain from the sky and of course the people who believe them :bleh: @ parental advisory: The true problem is not, that shops won't sell these records to minors, who'd be somehow "left out" off a lot of music, but that many stores won't even bother to sell CDs with that sticker in the first place, because they're oh-so-concerned about their moral- and family values... Of course those same values would never stop any shopfrom selling war-toys and the like... By this practice, "parental advisory" basically functions as a sort of censorship by harshly limiting the means of distribution. And I don't think we need to discuss about the wrongness of THAT now do we? |
