I'm no square but a regular camper and I know a lot of use for a watch.

You can use it as a compass k:

hm... I only know three:
time telling (obviously).
direction telling (with help of sun)
and lens (with help of water, and requires taking apart)

what others are there?

to help you count the number of wrong answers? (you take a stoped watch set it to 12 hours, and then set it one hour ahead for evey answer, reset when needed, patent pending)

or maybe you must cary a watch to provide shade? (what, mybe it's a big watch)

nope

Think, if you are in the dessert, what do you want more than anything else to survive?

What is in a watch?

Think a different meaning for the word...

ok, you asked for it:
you need to haul around a full compliment of guards (a watch), so you can kill them off one by one and drink their blood instead of water

seriously, I don't know any other meaning except for mini-clock, and guardsmen.
