why do they always put a 99 cents at the end of EVERY price like a rubber ducky for 5.99 (i know its expensive)

an isignifican't question for our american friends:
why do they allways hide the tax from you in the shops? not only do you have to carry lots change around, but you allso need calculator so you wouldn't run out of money! why doesn't anyone see anything wrong with this but me?! :ranting:
