A president decided he did not like the Netherlands, and nuked it. The handfull of survivors in the Netherlands condemned the attack on their country, but of course this backfired ( :P ). The United Kingdom showed their gratitude by improving their relations with the US.
The US then decides to attack the Netherlands from troops stationed in Germany, aided by Canadese and GB troops. The handfull of Dutch survivors, however, manage to hold of the invading force (which was over 50 times as large, I believe).
Following these events the US president is murdered.

Does everyone start this game by nuking their own country? **
I know. Childish, isn't it? The balance seems a bit off, though. Or are we Dutch really that hated that most nations wouldn't care if the US bombed us to hell?

What if you start the game invading your non-nuclear neighbors like mexico (top choice since theyre weaker than canada) and then canada (i believe theyre non-nuclear)? I guess what i'm trying to ask is if you take over the country, do you become even more powerful with more assets in your grip, or do nuclear nations get annoyed/scared and nuke you? j/w because i'm thinking about a slow imperial progression kinda game where I invade my neighbors, then I get political and I pound iraq with surgical strikes which always boosted my pop support when election comes around ha.

There is a way to add new scenarios. Someone a number of years ago had made a module for UGE. With it you can change the ideology of all countries, ownership and trade (I think you could change ethics and ambition too but I can't remember everything that was in it. To bad you couldn't change the countrty you controlled). I remember the readme told how to make a new scenario though I don't recall if I made one so I don't remember much about that.
The changing of trade status in that editor was a great way to bring up your countries money along with the others (or hurt them). If you went in and changed certain countries to blocked trade you could then go back and give them a better trading status. You could do the opposite to hurt someone economy.
Well i found that UGE stuff but i don't know how to Edit those files , anyway here is the link for the UGE file .. good luck

I tried to do different things.... My last game I tried going on a crusade in 3rd world communist countries and installing new government, but public support eventually ruined the game when they kicked me out for ending communism and ending any possible post-communistic dictatorships into capitalistic nations!!! That really sucked.... Thought I was doing a good job actually. Ah well

Now my gameplan is taking out aid to countries that don't affect my nations economy! Does this game ever end on its own?

Editing the files with UGE I found that copying the files you wish to edit (morenums.* or numbers.*) to your UGE directory is the easiest. In UGE press a to add a module. You will want to pick either one of the sptrade ones (You are usally 1 in trade but can drop lower) or the sppoldat one which you edit the ownership, ethics ideology and ambition. Once done just copy the edited file such as numbers.2 or whatever it may be and paste it back in the Shadow President directory. The readme for the UGE module explains it pretty good. Hopefully that helps you out some.

Also I don't think this game ever ends but maybe it does. I have let the thing run for a long period of time.

If you can get Mexico and Canada you will gain from that. Good way to balance the budget. You will also notice a population enlargement, income and whatever else it may change when you look at the statistic maps. If you took over a bunch of poorer nations you would notice the income level of the US would be down. Only problem with taking Canada or Mexico is it can really hurt your approval but you should be able to get away with it as long as you can stop them from removing you from office.

Libya hijacked an American passenger plane and made a mess of things, so I started brow beating them. I blocked trade, sold weapons to rebels, and constantly condemned them. My effectiveness eventually dropped to 30% due to all the times they condemned me. I found that if you enter the war room for a hostile country, you automatically negotiate with surrounding countries for a place to station your troops along that border. Even if you can't find a place, military tension in the region will rise greatly, and can be used to bug stubborn countries.

When I was bullying Iraq out of invading Saudi Arabia, I performed probably 20 or more surgical strikes on them, but it killed my ethics and raised ambition... I need a good way to repair ethics and raise effectiveness.

I have a question regarding this game. I got reelected in 1997 (IIRC) so i entered my 3rd term. I thought that game ends in 1997 so is it open-ended?

It probably is, since presidents are in office for no more than two terms.

Is there a way to add/remove countries from your world team alliance?
