im having problems running the game. i tried loadfix -512, but the game ends up not running. it says it cant find 32rtm.exe and that it must be on the same path or something. well i found 32rtm.exe and it's in the game folder.

when i try not to do loadfix or loadfix with anything lower than 512, the game crashes and says something about reference to a page i dont own. and dosbox exits.

i tried the reverse engineer file: winjjffe28b. it works but there's no sound.

tis a shame since i heard so much about this game being a classic and all and privateer can get kinda boring after a while.

anyway, i appreciate any help. well at least your attention has been brought to this.

use the java version that is on the 1st page of this topic

Gee, thanks.:not_ok: Just in case you didn't already know, we can't get to Earth or Barnard's Star from Gateway right in the beginning.

This is a career/life-threatening game. I was supposed to go down the gym yesterday as part of my health drive. Instead I ended up playing this until 3am. And then I almost missed a job interview this morning after I woke up late! LOL.

Previously I had played Elite II, but I always died early on. This time I've been a bit more patient and now got ?30,000 so far. Working my way towards a viper mkII. There's less bugs in this than the second one - I used to fast forward and end up crashing when docking, but this seems to have improved somewhat.

I'm playing the java version - the only thing I dont like is the lack of sound. I cant hear it when I hit the enemy ships. Bit a small gripe really.

Cant believe I've lost my originals for Elite II either! Used to have the amiga and PC versions, with all the maps, and everything. Looked on ebay yesterday - ?45 one of them is going for! Blimey!

Why are such impossible-to-play games like the Elite series so sought after? I'd like to hang the developers of First Encounter for making it impossible to trade anywhere outside Hope.

Actually, it should be possible. Sell your missiles, stock up totally on hydro fuel, and plan your jump routes carefully. You might be able to reach the core systems.

From turner you buy nerve gas and then go to old curie and buy grain and sell them to eachother

And its all on hope the starting planet

search for nearest system with low crime on the map and target it. now all you have to do is use the hyperspace drive and and hyperspace to it. sell the goodies tehre and restock with some maschinery. go back to hope and repeat until rich.

What is the systems name do you know?
