SimCity 4 lost a lot of character in its modernisation. 3000 is good and I really can't choose between it and 2000, I still play both.

A good tip for 2000 is to build a lousy city in a good grid. This gets you high cash and population and makes it easy to upgrade quickly. If you build police stations and hospitals, etc, into the city as you go along but set the funding to nil people will still move in to your buildings as long as the tax is low. You can raise funding and place beautiful commercial resorts and your city will be godlike. Then tax goes sky high and all the ordinances get set.

I've tried perfectionist cities which start, and stay utopias, but these never get off the ground as quickly.

Hmm... I got off the point there I think. Oh yeah, Sim2+3 fantastic! Sim4 not so good, but very cleverly done.
