I think that you can use the cd in a (maybe non-computer) cd player. I remember that being pretty cool

Well, you can use the CD of Descent II as music CD, but I think Descent 1 has only MIDI music. At least I know nothing of CD music being released for Descent...

This game is one of my all-time favorites, and for one big reason- u got to fly. Once you got used to be in tunnels verses outside, and once you got your flying down, this game was just great. Keyboarders I never understood how they did it, but played this game with Logitech's original Wingman Joystick- it was the best. With the Wingman and the cone hat switch you would do your directional strafe- up/down/L/R- this was key. Once u got your bearings in flying, this game was just awesome, maps not that hard to figure out, smart bots, a good challenge the whole way. Before I was able to fly 'right,' this game was very discouraging and was easy to be uninterested, but once fixed- great ride. Online with Kali was just great and not until Descent 2 did things for me get complicated. They went nuts in the map design and lack of ammo on the maps- I lost interest and didn't even finish D2. -But the addition of the thief bot in D2 was very slick.

Years later and after it's release I found Descent 3 out there and got that- with the publisher changes, it was a little different, but same good 'ol fun. The maps here were less complex than D2, but progressively became much longer and the add-on extra levels were gigantic. Too bad for D1,D2, or D3 that this game isn't played online anymore, think it still is on re-restarted Kali, but not in a huge community like it was. Multiplayer in DeathMatch and the just as fun or better in the other respect- CoOp, was just great. Get a good joystick with a good hat switch to control your strafe and a-z for forward/back gas on keyboard and this game is easily played. Cool to see this on this site, have all the original releases d1-d3, a Descent 4 on say the Doom3 engine would be great- hope it happens.

-comment replies-
-vr goggles: not me, but always wanted to try that
-kali: kali was great with this game, rounds and rounds of megapro, (the often complained was played too much as a level- loved it everytime), this was the best
-Tony: thnx for the keyboard layout, always wondered how to do it easily on a keyboard, have to try that. This also cause alot of keyboard player people were always very good in multiplayer. (whomever those people were.)
-Orientation: yes, an option to re-right the ship in options, very handy to have turned on.
-Descent 1 was only midi

Awesome Game.

Hey Yall, they are still doing more work on the Descent series...

The communities of Planet Descent and the DBB have been doing a lot to upgrade the older versions to new, more workable games. Now they can't continue the series because of copyrights...

Check out the two newest projects:

-Now play Descent ][][ with WHOA graphics! It allows the game to run on Win and Mac. Check out the new Descent Relived project. http://novacron.sitesled.com/drelived/

-If you want EXTREME graphics  ...Check out the project InterCerberon. They a running the Descent series into the face of Doom 3. This all makes for awsome graphics k: and gameplay. http://www.chmodoplusr.com/IntoCerberon/

I got a demo for the game about 10 years back. Got so disoriented on the 3 missions that it had that I uninstalled it and never played it again to this day.
