Hi everyone !

Nice to see its not just me who plays Genesia !

Ultimate domain and Genesia are the same game, dont worry about it. Theres no extra rooms in buildings. just different graphics. I have Genesia for the Amiga and Ultimate for the PC and to be honest i think the Amiga AI is better ! Me and my mate still play Genesia on hotseat and we have some evil strategies if anyone wants... but from the questions asked..

1, Trees will grow back yes but only if the water table is high enough. Once fertilizer is invented your farms will really suck the water out of your land so be careful. Conserve your trees by having no more than two woodcutters feeding two carpenters.. i know Eddie and Karnac have 15 going at once but they CHEAT !
Only farm in autumm... thats when the food is available. In summer pick the two highest moral people and tuck them up in farming for the autumn. Bribe the church in summer to get your farmers to moral 7. When the monk says "god will reward you" you have had an impact !

2, Population expansion. This needs to be handled carefully. You start with four people. dont build anymore houses until you have a temple, a drill, and at least 30+ food and water. once you have that, keep giving the church 50 gold to make everyone morale 7 then detail one guy only as a housebuilder.. keep him very happy and he will build bungalows, houses, small farms and eventually Inns.
I know.. Koriad Blues are probably buzzing you with a soldier or at most a slingshot archer.. just surround your flag with wells until you have more people.. then build barracks and own him !

A tip for winter.. when you have a workshop, EVERYONE must go into research. Sit out the whole turn and when a workshop announces an invention, set them up with another one and you might just have it before the winter ends.. then quickly arrange your spring work.. remember.. no farmers until autumn !

Enjoy the game

I tried this game for a few hours last week, and while it seems nice enough, it could do with some serious remaking. It's interesting and has some nice mechanics, but the interface is a pain! Specially the time limit thing, that hinders the gameplay a lot, specially after you conquer your 2nd or 3rd map square -- that's when I gave it up. Once your domain get a bit larger (and I reckon 3 squares is only initial growth enroute to domination), it's simply impossible to manage both military and domestic affairs (i.e. maneuvering troops and recruiting, and setting buildings and selling goods).

I don't mean souped up 3D graphics and whatnots, just a bit of "the same, but improved". I know it's wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be a blast if a remake of this game showed up on AR?

Good points !

I would never have more than three large cities- the rest of the lands would just be annexed for my trans-genesia highway. maybe Some garrison towns with no industry whatsoever..useful for maintaining an army without recruiting from your industry cities.

I would love a remake-- limitless turns like civ for one. Take the techs right up to the modern age for seconds... Tank, plane, warship...

I wonder if CPU-Cycles make a difference in means of ammount of time you have to spend for one round. Also in some Menues (e.g. where you inspect the storage of water, food and so on) I have difficulties to switch to the 2nd page. Also here CPU-Cycles semm to have an effect.

So, what number of CPU-Cycles do you suggest? At the moment I think, I should use at least 5000.

I have never played around with the cycles to be honest, so i dont know know if that would help - i do know time should not move when you are in the status screen and page 2 is accessed by single clicking gently on white section of the green triangle in the top left - it is a bit iffy though,if you click too hard, you go back to page 1. Try not to let it annoy you though, the only info you need is on page 1 and its the water table, for checking resources i look in the warehouse and for moral i look in the flag.

The game turn is small no matter where you play it, Dosbox or Amiga and does seem like a rush job at first, but you will work out a good routine. Build all crucial buildings near the flag so when you zoom to that land on the map, you can quickly dive in and change your research, bribe the church or look at your goods.

Agree on that. I play it for the 1st time for me, but I already realized that it's obviously better to concentrate the builings around the flag for time-saving purposes (not as mentioned in the manual which suggests e.g. to build the church on a hill).

I also found out that the game runs very smoothly at 10.000 cycles. Only the mentioned 2nd statistic page is to be reached MUCH better as 3.000 cycles. So I installed the game through D-Fend at 10.000 cl and 7.000 up/down-switch with the short-cuts (ctrl-F11 and ctrl-F12).

Seems to be a very interesting game. Think I even like it more than popolous. It deserves a 5 from me

PS: The turn time window seems to be programmed in real time. So it should not make any difference at which cycles you run it.
