Copy right is just that, the right to freely copy the product, not the right for it's name etc.

anyway it's not ESA's fault it's the copanies fault. so curse the Siearra (or whoeevr bought them...), but you can't can you? because they actually made the game

well in this case copyrights are basically right of intelectual property. so by using games you would be using ideas, knowledge and work of someone else without even paying for it.

but that's the capitalist way i guess. it's no unusual for a multibillion $ company is whining because they lost 5 % of profit. it's called greed (something punishable or at least stigmatised in communism).

It's strange isnt' it. how people who are filthy rich whine if they have to loose 5%, seeking immediate legal action. but if a common worker get 5% salary reduction he is displeased for a while, maybe rants a bit but after a few days he shuts up. because otherwise he might loose his job.


and things like "common good" is not known in capitalism. if it was then stuff that wasn't sold (and porbabyl never will be) or used for over 5 years wouldn't still be protected.

Yes but I can't even pay for it, because there is no way to obtain that property with actually paying it...

All I'm trying to say is that no, ESA isn't "OMG TEH EVIL COMPANIE THAT WONT LEMME DWNLAOD SPACE QUEST", but it is also not the charity or the goody good company that we should all hail to or something, which was basically the purpose of the initial post...

I would say that the Abandonware part of the ESA is useless and a waste of money...

This is a perfect example of someone who don't know better and who just don't like ESA because it happen to be in his way...

It's the perfect example because it's clear that all you want is the games without thinking for a moment about those who really wish to do this.

The ESA is only a workforce company. They didn't create the rules they enforce, they don't decide what to do. They do what they are told to do, because they are paid to do it. And it's perfectly legal.

Whining about the ESA is the wrong way to go around the problem. If you want to whine about something, whine for something worthwhile. Like for example the fact that the companies who are paying the ESA don't want to release those games to the public either. That would be a good thing to whine about. You could whine also that they probably do that because all they think about is making money with cheap labour and low budget which tend to get lower quality games, while old games are high quality and readily available if not protected. That's quite another good topic to whine about.

But whining about ESA actually protecting the games? That's plain stupid. All they are doing is their job, and it's the full right of the companies who hold the rights to their games to protect them if they wish. Either way, you just look silly saying things like what been quoted above.

I was not whining, I was merely stating my opinion, tell me if my statement is false and if protecting old unsold games copyrights makes sense?(by anyone not just the ESA, the ESA here is merely a symbol because I'm too lazy to count every single company that does this)

And it is my reply to raising ESA to heavens, which was what Alex did in his first post(which was BTW an obvious sucking up to I don't know who), I mean wtf are we supposed to be grateful for ESA?

I have no problem with a copyright holder making money from his work, but the ESA prevents people from experiencing great games that are no longer available for sale

company sould spend less money to pay ESA and lower the prices of the games; that would be more effective.

...I don't blame the ESA, I blame the developers for hoarding all their old games and neglecting to distribute them. If you're going to find a solution for a problem, always check the source of the problem.

not the developers. most of them have no control regarding their game, that's the problem. conpanies control everything
