Was it in active use by the end of the war, or was it just one of the old models they still used (more as an exception).
I'd just like to repeat my coment, as it's actually a little hint request...

@ a1s: So? How old are you? How many decades do you still have in front of you, what's a few weeks in comparison...

(This is referring to the German aircraft.) It was still in active service at the end of the war, as it was very good at what it did.

Here's another hint, still referring to the German plane: One of these aircraft played a pivotal role in a very famous rescue mission during the war.

kajjj: One of the aircraft is on your list. The other is not.

well the only two *famous* rescue operations in WWII were Dunkirk and operation Unternehmen Eiche. the choice here is obvious. so I'm going to say: DFS 230.
EDIT: I'd like to change that to Fieseler Fi 156 (Storch).

BTW, I really want this thread to work, but we have been on this question for 7 weeks. I don't mean you any offence by strting that other thread. honest.

Fieseler Fi 156 Storch is correct! Since I said some time ago that I'd give one point per plane, that puts you in a three-way tie for the lead:

The score:
Sebatianos: 2
Havell: 2
a1s: 2
BeefontheBone: 1

Care to take a shot, so to speak, at the American plane?

sure.
it was either Piper L4 or J3, plus I have a strong feeling that that is the same plane model.
