Thanks Velik m for the links Im just looking at the widelands game now.
It wasnt that I thought S3 & S4 were rubbish (i played them quite a bit) but it didnt have the same feel as the first two; the world seemed to get smaller, the game quicker and the game strategies less complex. Like i said in the origional post, i hoped the game would get bigger maps and more players, maybe so ud have to set up towns and set up trade routs with other nations for scarce resources, make alliances etc, also a more in depth look at what goods needed to be made to run a medieval economy. For example the brewer makes beer, but who makes the barrels and the pintpots to drink it from or nails for buildings as another example. This simplicity was good as a 14 year old 10 years ago, but now Im looking for something thats going to go a little deeper.
Any ways enough of my ramblings, good luck to the widelands team with their project I look forward to seeing this completed work in progress!!

Cheers
Szozzar

From my amiga days I remember that memory was the factor which limited how big map and world can be.

Not sure if PC had the same check up for memory. (memory was the problem for amiga games)

I fixed it but now I can't set the perfect settings! (I use dosbox) Some setting make the sound bad, others - the motion -slow! Help - give optimal settings for dosbox specially for this game...

I've just downloaded the original settlers from Abandonia and played it last night for the first time in over ten years, and wow its just as good as I remember from my teenage days on my Amiga 1200. Problem is, I can't save this version though, when I try I'm told disk full or write protected. I've even tried popping a formated disk in to see if this works... but same message comes up. Anyone out there overcome this problem? Every now and again it crashes which is very frustrating when you've been playing for five hours straight and have been unable to save (Devastating in fact) So without the ability to save I can't play AND THATS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE! Sorry, its just such a good game... Help!

Let's see... try using the switches to the MOUNT command that allow you to change the amount of free space DosBox returns when the games check for it.
Also, the floppy drives (and CD drives) need a few extra swtiches to mount correctly.
