![]() Whoa! Nice job, Seb! That puts you in the lead!
The score: Sebatianos: 4 a1s: 3 Havell: 2 BeefontheBone: 1 Yes, that's a Messerschmitt KR200, made by the Messerschmitt. Their designs which were known for their lethality were, of course, not cars at all. I want one of those cars (since I probably won't ever get one of the planes)... I'll try to come up with a new question promptly, but since I rarely post here on weekends, it might be a couple of days.

![]() Sorry for the delay (again).
Question #9: Which US state's name originated as a hoax? (As far as I can tell, there's only one.)

![]() Idaho is correct - the word was allegedly a Native American word meaning "gem of the mountain" or something like that, but in reality, some guy whose name escapes me just made it up. That's another point for a1s, and we're all tied up again!
The score: Sebatianos: 4 a1s: 4 Havell: 2 BeefontheBone: 1 No, I don't have another question yet.

![]() Hmm... I still fail to see how Idaho is a hoax...

The American people didn't give any effort to pronounce it correctly. Now read it aloud and imagine your native language would be American. BTW: Same reason why the western world pronounces many chinese and japanese cities wrong. When Marc'O'Polo went there he wrote down the names he heard as best as he could. E.G.: It's not Peking it's Beijing. [nosy-nerd-mode off]

This is from Wikipedia: <!--QuoteBegin-The WP Idaho has a very unusual name. It is perhaps the only state to be named as the result of a hoax. When a name was being selected for new territory, eccentric lobbyist George M. Willing suggested "Idaho," which he claimed was a Native American term meaning "gem of the mountains". It was later revealed Willing had made up the name himself, and the original Idaho territory was re-named Colorado because of it. Eventually the controversy was forgotten, and modern-day Idaho was given the made-up name when the Idaho Territory was formally created in 1863.[/quote] More importantly...I haven't thought of a new question yet!

![]() Now I have! Maybe this will be the last one...who knows?
Question #10: Where was this picture taken? (I admit, I'm a sucker for the visual questions. They're less likely to end up as Google-races.)
