Does this version allow you to get a ship captured by the enemy tractor beam, then kill the enemy and get double cannons?I'm going to download it just to check, but that was probably the coolest trick in a video game (of the time). Be a shame if it was missing.

Hmm... Between the classic and the variants, spin offs, and remakes of it, I spent hundreds of hours as a child playing this game*. The only thing that even comes close to matching it would be Tank Wars... ^.^

* Not all at once, of course though I'd have been glad to have tried. My mom had this horrible thing she called "kicking me outside". The bright thing in the sky burned my eyes so badly...

"Enemy ships capturing your spaceship"? If that wasn't this one, that may have been Galaga, which I believe was this games sequel.

This game is not an space invaders clone (as its stated in the reviev) its ansestor was the famous arcade game known as Galaga. Space invaders was a clone of Galaga and became more popular than the original.

Wrong! Galaxian is dated 1979, Galaga is it's 1981 sequel. Galaxian DID copy Space Invaders (1978), but added more suspension with "kamikaze divers".

For those not in the know gorf you played in 'waves' up to the mother ship, whic if you beat you got promoted.

the waves went , astro invaders (space invaders clone), Laser batter( a bit like glaxain only with two 'laser' ships which fired long laser beams at you), then came a wave of galaxians (the connection that makes this slightly less off topic), then a space warp(where the enimey would come spiraling out of the middle of the screen towards you), and the finaly the mother ship,(where you have to blow a hole in the reactor to blow it up). You then started again at a slightly higher level.

the galaxian wave was always my favoirite.
ZOMG! I'm SO glad someone else on here has played GORF! I LOVE that game SO MUCH and have been trying to find a PC adaptation of it...with no luck
The Galaxian level was always my favorite too  When I finally achieved the final rank of "Space Warrior" I had achieved one of my life-long goals. I can die happy now (even though I promptly died thereafter in the first level :laugh
