I never did manage to beat more than 2 of those crystal-dude ships per attempt. I just figured it was a really hard game. edit: that is to say, The story seemed to make it quite clear: GET AS FAR THE **** AWAY FROM EARTH AS YOU CAN BEFORE THEY TAN YOUR HIDE, YOU FOOL!
[/b]
Take strength, soldier, you are to save the Earth, not your lowly hide! If you stay away from Earth it's then when you're lost, because it's in the station over there where you can recover. Your only choices are either to fight or to perish ... or not to play the game

HINT: You're not supposed to defeat every crystal-dude in the galaxy -you couldn't no matter how hard you tried. There's another way around it, just follow the storyline and in the meantime bear with those lowly bastards, they're very annoying.

The sylandro probes act as the games random monster encounters all over. And they aren't that hard to beat, just be sure to *spoiler block on (highlight to read)* stop by pluto, little purple planet on the eastern end of the furthest out orbital, *spoiler* to get your silver bullet and you can just about beat anything that comes along with a little practice (and a few reloads)
