Just for the record.
Tried boot disk on different computers, systems ranging from win 98 to 2000 to Millennium to XP : it is always the same as above : AOTP no sound, AOE goes black when plane is hit.
Tried old boot disc by Sierra in Win 98 ; doesn't work, no available memory.
A pity; AOE is full of add ons like Aces Over Russia, but there's no way to get it working.
Interestingly, when I go DOS via Boot Disk or DosBox my (normally Italian) keyboard changes...
This means I have to type Ascii ALT-58 to get " : "....
But on laptops Ascii doesn't work...

Sigh

You might want to check out the official DosBox FAQ, and particularly this part of it

I just started playing aoe again using dosbox. Man, what a great game it was. Anyway, the full manual can be downloaded at:

http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=1859
[/b]
It looks like this link is not working.

But i have found in this one:
[url=http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?name=Aces+over+Europe]http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?name=Aces+over+Europe

I looks like we have to build the manual, and there is a dll missing:
Missing DLL

Hope you find usefull!

Enjoy the game!

Thumbs up

When I activate it I see the opening cinema just fine.

But then a box pops up that says I don't have enough memory to run it .

I have 512 MBs of RAM . l o l

It seems you are trying to run the game in plain Windows. I strongly suggest you use DosBox instead.
You can download it here.

You might want to check out the official DosBox FAQ, and particularly this part of it. It is quite helpful for users unfamiliar with DosBox.

Thanks, Horseman for responding !

I'd rather not use "DOSBox" 'cause I wanna "relive" -- if you will -- the experience of playing directly on a computer.

Is thier any other way to play this utter classic ?
I think if the CD was sold it's meant ta be played directly! l o l

Thanks In Advance!

If you try DosBox, you'll find out that using it doesn't detract from your gameplay experience. You will be able to play the game normally - just like if it was running on an oldschool DOS PC, command line and everything. You don't have to use any of the advanced features of DosBox (grahpic scalers, improved sampling rates etc) if you don't want them.

It's a DOS game. Trying to run it in Windows isn't a good idea, and same goes for running it on modern machines (because of lack of hardware compatibility).

If you really are that desperate to go the hard way... get the phone numbers for the game publisher's tech support line and Microsoft's tech support. Keep bothering both until the people there figure out what to do.
Of course, this can take a while...

Thanks for the help, HorseMan !

I suppose my main question is why do the other games on the CD -- "Red Baron" & "Aces Of The Pacific" -- work flawlessly
in XP but the one game I bought the CD for -- Aces Over Europe" -- doesn't ?

Why don't the other games suffer from the "DIVIDE INTEGER BY 0" problem ?

By the way -- I only have InterNet access on Tuesdays & Wednesdays and that's the reason for the delays in my responses ! l o l

Thanks In Advance !
