I don't know exactly how the game mechanics work, I never found a documentation.
In older games like MM2 with text display in combat you can read something like "Knight attacks monster 5 times, hits 3 times for 50 damage."
Its probably the similar in WoX, just the text display is omitted.
But there's something (which doesn't depend on the number of attacks) subtracted from the total damage you inflict afterwards, it might depend on AC or a hidden monster stat.
So if you would only hit for a total of 50 against a high AC monster, it will stay unharmed.
The more attacks you have, the more likely is that you'll manage to cause damage.

I'd consider replacing at least one cleric with a paladin in your new party so you can use any item in the game. You only need enough spell points to cast your buffs.
My post should mainly outline the half-casters can't replace pure warriors, not that half-casters can't replace full casters.

My party couldn't scratch the Gamma Gazers either when they first met one, that's mainly because you are not supposed to explore their area before you are very experienced.
You are still able to beat the game with your old party, it's just not that easy. A level 60 paladin gets the same number of attacks as a level 40 barbarian after all.

I'm having a lot of problems with the copy protection. I've purchased Clouds of Xeen and Darkside of Xeen separately (via an online download site - www.trygames.com) - and combined them into World of Xeen.

Unfortunately, it still has the copy protection enabled, and the supplied manuals have been repaginated, so none of the answers work!

I made it through MM4 by using Omuletzu' supplied jpeg (Thanks btw!).

Anyone have a similar list of keywords for Darkside of Xeen?

Thanks all in advance.

You should ask the people you bought the game from to send the codes or your money back to you.
It's not your fault that you can't play the game.
Is the side you mentioned legal ? The prices are rather expensive than fair, but this doesn't prove anything.

There's a pdf called keywords.pdf which contains the copy protection keywords for all the MM games.
The jpg you saw is actually a screen cap of the pdf.
here it is

I had the same problem, so the first time I went to Darkside, I just traveled through the sewers, since my party was strong enough, and I had the swimming ability. Then I found out that in Darkside, Town Portal teleports you outside of a town, so if you get town portal from Clouds, then use it in Castleview to teleport to Castleview, you'll be left standing right outside. You can also go to the top of Ellinger's Tower in Castleview, then fell off.

so ive been playing this game for a few days. got my chars up past lvl 10. went into the castle and found a room i hadnt been in before. the kings room. two chests...whoo hoo. opened them and got jumped by these kings gaurds....well I dont take that laying down. reload and head back in, now Im determined to get those chests...I DIED FOR THEM...

well much to my dismay taking those chests seems to piss off the ENTIRE CASTLE.

here's my question. is there anyway to correct that? If I kill all the guards will I be able to talk to the king?

as I've saved over my game after taking the first chest Im kind of committed to it now...any way out of it outside of starting over? thankfully Im only lvl 10, heh.

I'm not sure killing the guards is gonna stop you from talking to the king... and besides, you won't be talking to him else than getting his quest.
But the real problem is, that taking down those guards is pretty hard...
You see, there's about twenty of them I think in the court, and they'll ambush you at every advisor (three of them each time) so I don't really recommend doing what you did.
There might be a chance for you to get out of there alive, but it would probably require ALOT of resting.
Good luck :P

I don't remember robbing the chests having any effect on the king's behaviour. My party robbed all.
The guards aren't that tough. With the right equipment and protection spells you should be able to handle them. If you only open one chest at a time and kill all guards before opening the next one you might have an easier time or at least gain more experience.

You can try getting out of the castle without too many fights by using jump spells and sidestepping.
You can return once your party is more experienced and you have freed the important wells in the towns.

For fighting the guards you should use buffing spells like "day of protection" and "day of sorcery", if you can't cast them yet cast shield, bless, heroism and holy bonus.

The chest contents are not important, more important is what random items you can get for killing the royal guards who attack with cold. The treasure in the chests is just rubbish compared to this.
I had someone else than my thief try to open certain chests without success to make them respawn endlessly for experience and items.
"Protection from cold", cold resistance and luck will soften their cold attack.

Your'e right.
But at lvl 10, I was'n't able to take on them.
Well maybe my party just isn't the strongest.

I got a couple of them down with level 10's, my robber was like 12th i think, wound up having to beacon out first chance I got. no way I could of handled them all.

now another question...How useful is the merchant skill? I've got my second group up to 10+ and have enough coin saved up for maybe one of them to get the skill, but is it worth the 6k?
