Well, after all all the programs Bill Gates "owns" were programmed by some other people. Ms-Dos was also programmed by some guy who even didn't know what he created. Gated gave him some money and bought Ms-Dos off. In contrast to the programmer Bill Gates knew what he was going to buy. That's where his career began...
That's not wwhat I heard, I heard that IBM needed an OS produced as fast as was possible so they hired Microsoft (which was only small then) who created QDOS (Quick and Dirty Opersting System). If IBM hadn't been so greedy then they could have bought the company of Microsoft and got all the money.

The guy did know what he made, but he did not know potential of his Disk Operating System. Bill made deal with IBM, but instead of making it, he bought finished OS from that guy (can't remember his name).

After that he did make great investment in making Microsoft company for all software you need on PC, and that would be reason he is recently often in the courts, as they got sued for software monopoly.

In the mean time they bought way to many companies, and got huge.

Ironic fact: The hotmail, today owned by Microsoft, until recently (couple years ago) was hosted on FreeBSD + apache servers. LOL

Actually, it did start off as being Quick and Dirty Operating System but IBM changed it to Disk Operating System (besides, all OSs use disks ). Little known fact that.

There were the homecomputers with integrated ROM operating systems, which only deserved the name partially, because they were really limited to only the most needed things.
