Aren't the 'nids inspired by geigers artwork? I know the alien movies were inspired by it (and the tyranids are more than a little inspired by those movies)

About tyranids, I don't know. Design of the alien wasn't actually inspired by Giger, but Giger himself designed the monster specificly for the movie based on his biomechanical artwork.
