Folks, have anyone tried playing this on a laptop? I have no number pad and don't seem to be able to duel.

I played this game ages ago and I loved it. I was stunned to see it here on this site. I found a few old titles and I wondered if the really old ones would be here. Frankly, I remembered the samurai game but couldn't remember the game title. Imagine my surprise when I found the game here. I read the posts then downloaded it. To be honest, very few modern games are as engrossing as "Sword of the Samurai", "Elite" and "Overlord (aka Supremacy)". there are better graphics and more sophisticated AI, but for all the flash, the modern games don't grab me the way those old titles did.

Anyway, any help on the subject of katana dueling with a laptop would be appreciated.

Every laptop has a numberpad; around u,i,o,j,k,l... Just make sure numlock is on.

You guys and gals know when the game warns you that your lord is going to be assesinated by a samurai of a neighbouring province? Well I've tried killing that samurai and also kidnapping one of his relatives, but my lord is killed nonetheless. By the way, is there any point whatsoever in travelling to other provinces before you are daimyo?

PS: I know killing my lord's enemy hardly favours me, I was just fiddling.

"Your lord is going to be assassinated" can't be prevented. It's a way to climb in rank if you're one of those bleeding-heart "honorable" types, nothing more.

And you can benefit by invading your lord's enemy.

hey I love this game, i've become addicted, but i've got a problem, see, the game works without DOSBox, but is kinda slow, sometimes my character would't move, or for example, if i pres left once (and release inmediatly) it just locks and keeps moving, i've got killed very few timees cause of this, and, when i run it in DOSBox, it works perfectly, the speed its just perfect, tha game turns really dinamic and of course really fun, BUT, when in the HOME SCROLL, the place you're supposed to save or reload game, when i press ALT+S, the keys to SAVE the progress, to save the game, it justo stop responsing, the game hagns, titlt, dont't know how to say it, the thjing is thath only the space bar works... so i only can quit the game... loosing all progress, please, does somebody knows what the problem is? is there any solution??? im driving crazy cause of this!!!, ok, thanks!

A classic game indeed.

I'm very tempted to try a remake myself - I have this idea for simple pre-rendered backdrops for the various menus and choices.

I'm wondering how much little to change in terms of the rest of the game. I'm worried that if I tried to change too much its not going to retain the simple charm of the old game - but I'd really like to avoid it being as simple as a direct graphical upgrade.

What do you think? What would you change?

Hmm... AI in battles, especially defending AI... Dunno, something that adds to replayability making it less repetitive...

Yes, an improvement over that would be nice. And also the controls in such battles, they were a bit akward.
Apart from that, I think that something could be done with duels, to make them a bit quicker, as it was kind of difficult to hit in the way you wanted (at least in my case, maybe I'm just dumb :bleh: )

Cannot get the game to start, it starts but locks up at the title screen (Right before the title is supposed to flash)...anyone know?
