You are supposed to have autoexec.bat and config.sys in your root directory (usually c:\). That's how DOS worked in the old days, they are the files which make the computer start and load all DOS programs.

Yes but the NT platform uses Autoexec.nt and Config.nt to start an MS-DOS environment and they should be in the Windows/System32 folder. The error message that Rorture is getting is related to an absence of the autoexec file or an error in that file.

I got that message for a while whenever I tried to run any DOS-based program in XP. Once I put that file in the right place it worked perfectly.

Rorture: If you try and run another DOS program in XP do you get the same message?
