the only way that I found that you could not turn off the pc speaker was when running through windows so that is why I presume that she probably was using windows.

Anyways, yes, you are right by setting nosound to true that should disable the access to the direct speakers.

EDIT: If she doesn't use DOSbox the she can use Daemon tools or something like that, simpler.

Daemon Tools don't have anything to do with either the problem or its' solution.
