![]() Skaven if you play only one type of game from the same time period, you may be okay. But even there, with D-Fend, it is so easy to play around with sound and graphics and cycles, etc, that I think in some ways with D-Fend I am getting a better result than someone just setting up DOSBox. And again I would point out trying to tell a newbie how to configure sound and graphics and cycles and sometimes even more is going to be a heck of a job in a thread than explaining how to do the same things in D-Fend or other front end.
I play DOS games from the 1980's to the mid to late 90's, I play strategy and RPG and shooter games, I find that very few of my games have identical setups, but I agree, I do have some where only the cycles are different, so I agree with you there! I started with DOSBox, and I have moved to using a front end because it is a 1000% easier, if it easier to use, it's got to be easier to tell a newbie to get it and use it in my mind, as I believe he is much more likely to be successful and then become a fully fledged retro gamer. I can well believe a newbie that has too much grief will be switched of retro gaming and may move away, that would be to the detriment of him, us and this website! So I say recommend D-Fend as often as possible. It just makes perfect sense to me. |
