Hello everyone,

this is my first post here.
So first off, I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the community is here!

Like many of you I've got some fond memories of the GoldBox games, even thou I couldn't get to play much of them when I was a kid.

So, I started playing Champions of Krynn a few days ago, but unfortunately found it a little too hard for my skills. And, judging by several posts on this topic, I'm not the only one with such gameplay issues.

BUT, besides practicing, I've finally found a way to enjoy the game: the Alter command in the Inn lets you change combat difficulty! Needless to say, I was delighted as soon as I've read about it in the Rules manual.

Hope this helps those who were more or less stuck in the first encounters, like me!

Sorry to bother, but I am having an issue running this game. I have read other posts referring to this, tho no solution. I started having the hali error issue and thanks to the posts here, sorted it out. Now I cannot load characters.

I am running DOSbox on a Mac, with the cok folder in my hard drive. Mount C /cok.

Messing around with the cfg file gave me these results-
C:\cok\SAVE\ = 3hali error
C:\cok\SAVE = 3hali error
C:\SAVE = works to save, .who character files are now created in the Save directory.

So, the path is now correct and I understand the logic of why I was getting an error before. The problem now is when I try to 'add character to party', the game screen just flashes and nothing happens. Save fixed, loading not so much. Killing me. I want to run through all 3 games. Back in the day, I only played the last one. Any thoughts?

Is there no way to dual class your characters in the Krynn Series? I remember doing so with a fighter in the Pool gold box series when it came out, but now that I've gotten a fighter up a few levels I can only see a way to change knight classes, not go from fighter to magic-user...

I also got it to the point where it would save chars, but on "add" or "load saved game" it would just do nothing.

I fixed it by deleting the .cfg and choosing the default for the save path ( d:/save ) . looks weird but worked for me. it saves to cok/save now, although in the cfg it says "D:\SAVE\"

Thank you, thank you, unknown internet godsend. Gave me the 3hali error at first, but then I mounted cok to d drive instead of c & I am able to add my created characters now. Locked & loading. Thanks again!

Sounds like the game configuration file is not right. The directory into which the game saves the character files is not correct in the cfg-file.

All you need to do is edit the .cfg file (or whatever the configuration file is) with notepad. Make sure the drive letter and game directore are correct.

I tried everything these guys told me to do, nothing worked. The only thing that seemed to help for me was using dosbox if I mount the whole c drive (says not reccomended) like..

mount c c:\

then go to your game manually and it works!

I LOVE the combat system in these Gold Box games... LOVE IT. It's too bad they didn't add a better game engine around this almost perfect AD&D RPG combat engine.

Still, I played all these Gold Box games on my Amiga and enjoyed (except Hilsfar.. ick) every minute.

I played through the whole Pool series...
Never playd krynn series , now is the time
Well , this may cost me some nights , but what the heck...
It has never been done any RPG in this size and/or story...
SSI made a couple of real treasures in theese games...
