512 is sufficient for XP, been there done that.
Now, for games that might be another thing altogether, but most should run decently on 512 (perhaps with exception of the newest titles)

Heck, it EVEN runs on 320Mb of RAM.
Yes, it's a slow DeskTop. (550MHz!) <_<

But I hardly use it for crunching the numbers (often).
At least I've learned some patience with that Desktop.
