AFAIK, you can only save after completing a level.

I got the game finally on cd and after I installed it the thing would not recognize my cd. Any suggestions besides mounting in Daemon tools?

search for mdk in registries, whether you will find a key "CD DRIVE" or something like that, it might be set to a different value

i looked at the cfg file and it shoes the right cd drive.

Could be something simple like the the CD being dirty. (Just a silly suggestion.)

I'm positive its not that. The problem is that it won't read the cd. i tried installing it fron another cd drive and it wont do that one either. My CD drives are E and F. It keeps on asking to put cd in drive E and its already in drive E.

I agree, like I said at first it might be the CD could be dirty too. When I'd replied earlier the user must have thought I meant the 'drive' was dirty, not so I meant the actual disk could be damaged. Sounds like it, if it can't be read in two machines.

Man, I just finished it. There are some confusing bosses where it's not clear how to beat them, but if you stick at it you can usually figure it out pretty quick.

and the ending is C.O.R.N.Y... so bad..
