![]() Ok. I downloaded and installed the DOS version of UFO Enemy Unknown. I downloaded and installed Dosbox and have played other games successfully on it. But I just can't get this to work! When I try to install it, I get a message that says "Change directory to and then enter CDSETUP followed by your CD ROM drive letter"
Wha...? I'm no genius with DOS, but am familiar enough with it to run other games... I don't know what I'm doing wrong |

![]() Did you try just to run the game directly? Maybe you don't need to install it since it's already in the installed state.

![]() Ok, now I just feel retarded. I can play the game... but there's no sound. And aren't I supposed to play it from the dos4gw file? That one doesn't work. It says it's protected, gives me copyright info and says something about a fatal error...
I configured the sound setup just like the configuration in the dosbox.conf file... Blah. I just want to play it with sound! All my excitement from getting it to work on vista has deflated... |

![]() You can't, neither supposed to run the game from the dos4gw file, because it's used to enable protected mode memory for the game and is used automatically. You need to start the game with another .exe file in that folder.
As about the sound, try Soundblaster, Soundblaster Pro or Soundblaster 16 whichever is available in the configuration program, each other better than previous. Try the following values - Port 220, IRQ 7, DMA 1. If still no sound, try IRQ 5 instead. |

![]() If you're using the DOS version from this site, you'll need to set the sound up using setup.exe first.

![]() As short as this advise might appear, I generally would suggest the same. While you still have good chances to get old Dos games to run in Windows XP, Windows Vista is much worse in these ways which is why you probably would like to consider to install Windows XP on your computer instead of Vista.

![]() If it's your main computer and it can handle Vista, I'd say set up both Vista and XP.
